Editorial Policy

Bedford Talk aims to be warm, clear and practical. We make local information accessible rather than overly official, and explain what readers may need to know next.

What we cover

We publish local features, business guides, restaurant recommendations, shopping, events and useful everyday services. Our guides are selected to help residents and visitors understand available options and their locations.

Bedford town and the wider borough

Bedford town centre, the High Street, St Paul’s Square, the Castle Quarter and the Embankment are central reference points. Goldington, Putnoe, Brickhill and Queens Park are distinct residential areas. Kempston is a substantial neighbouring town with its own centre; Biddenham, Great Denham and Elstow have distinct village or community identities. Wixams is a planned new settlement south of Bedford. We identify these places specifically rather than using “Bedford” as a substitute for every surrounding locality.

Bedford railway station is the principal station for the town; Bedford St Johns serves its south-eastern side. The M1 is reached by connecting roads and does not run through the town. We distinguish local services provided by Bedford Borough Council from county-level services, and we avoid claiming that the University of Bedfordshire or other institutions are in the town centre when their facilities are elsewhere.

Sources and changing details

Where practical, we use sources close to the subject, including a business’s own information, Bedford Borough Council, venues, event organisers, transport operators and relevant public bodies. Opening hours, market days, menus, prices, school admissions, healthcare arrangements, transport patterns and event schedules can change. We check current information where feasible and encourage readers to confirm important details directly.

We do not invent businesses, ratings, customer feedback, prices, event dates, service coverage or statistics. We distinguish a historic association from current public access and do not present a planned event as confirmed without checking the current year. We describe Bedford’s cultural diversity respectfully and avoid stereotypes based on ethnicity or background.

For sensitive matters such as health, safety, legal services or public support, we provide general signposting only. We do not make unsupported claims about individuals, crime, health outcomes or property values.

Recommendations and commercial relationships

A listing or recommendation is not automatically paid for or endorsed. If a page contains sponsored content or another commercial relationship, we will identify it clearly. Commercial arrangements do not by themselves determine our editorial view.

Corrections

To report a possible error, email [email protected]. Include the page address, the detail in question and a reliable source if possible. We review correction requests and update material errors where appropriate. Minor edits may be made without a separate note; substantial corrections may be identified on the page.

A request does not automatically require removal or amendment. We consider accuracy, relevance, privacy, safety and the public interest. We do not publish private personal information or unverified allegations about individuals.

Scope

Our guides are selective, not a complete directory. Inclusion is not a guarantee of quality, availability or suitability, and absence is not criticism. Check important details with the organisation concerned before making a decision.
